Propane Tank Refill in Miami–Fort Lauderdale, FL (Not Just Exchange Cages)
Miami-Dade and Broward spots whose public pages say they refill your cylinder — not Blue Rhino / AmeriGas / grocery or condo exchange-only cages. Chips cover Miami, Hialeah, Doral, North Miami Beach, Kendall, Homestead, Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Pembroke Pines, Pompano, and Margate. West Palm Beach / Boca / Loxahatchee, Tampa, and Orlando are different pages.
Only stations with a public page that describes refill / tank refills / fill station / cylinder refills / cylinders of any size refilled (not exchange-only). Hours below are office / store / published retail hours from those pages — propane attendant coverage can be shorter; call ahead. Gallon prices omitted. Do not merge West Palm Beach / Boca / Loxahatchee, Tampa, or Orlando onto this table.

Propane page title is refill. City results did not surface a Tank Refills price block on the snippet opened (they led with 24-hour storage). Keep the row because the dedicated propane URL is a refill page; do not treat 24-hour storage access as a 24-hour pump.

Page title is refill; Fort Lauderdale / Coral Springs city results list Tank Refills. Coral Springs itself had no owned U-Haul refill pin on the city results page opened — Margate is the chip, not a Coral Springs street.
Not listed (on purpose):U-Haul Moving & Storage of Coconut Creek, 5431 Johnson Rd, Coconut Creek, FL 33073 — location page is Propane Tank Exchange only (20-lb swap). U-Haul Moving & Storage at Sample and Powerline, 2150 W Sample Rd, Pompano Beach, FL 33073 — location page is Propane Tank Exchange only. Do not mix with 903 E Sample Rd (refill). Miami Beach / Brickell — Miami Beach city results listed mainland refill pins (36th St, North Miami Beach, Dadeland, etc.). No island refill street was on that results page. Pico Propane Fort Lauderdale (350 NE 44th St) and Miami (1060 SW 27th Ave) — live location pages opened this pass read as delivery / cylinder-exchange programs / commercial fueling. A third-party URL that listed walk-up refill hours 404’d. National Pico “bottle dock” page does not publish these FL streets. Omitted until a live operator page says walk-up cylinder refill at that address. Blossman Gas “Miami” page — official location is 3101 North State Road 7, Margate, with Mon–Fri 8am–5pm, but the page does not say grill-cylinder / walk-up refill. Appliance / delivery language. Omitted. Tractor Supply Loxahatchee Groves #2019, 15731 Southern Blvd — Palm Beach. Not this metro. Grocery / big-box Blue Rhino–style cages (Publix, Wawa, hardware cages) unless a page explicitly says they also refill. Tampa / Orlando / Fort Myers U-Haul and TSC — other metros. Live gallon prices change; omitted from cards.
What to check before you drive
Refill ≠ exchange. If the pin is only a cage with a card reader and no attendant fill, you are in exchange territory. Miami–Fort Lauderdale U-Haul city results mix both on one list (especially Pompano / Coconut Creek).
Call ahead. Ask: “Do you refill my tank today, what sizes, and is someone available now?” Store hours ≠ propane attendant hours. Homestead Flagler’s 24-hour storage line is not a 24-hour pump.
Bring the empty (or low) tank you own. Refill keeps your cylinder; exchange swaps it.
Read the collar date. DOT cylinders must be requalified within 12 years of manufacture (then again per method).
Look for OPD. Cylinders up through 40 lb propane capacity generally need an Overfill Prevention Device valve.
Condition matters. Excessive rust/pitting, dents/bulges/cuts, damaged collar/footring, or a bad valve.
Expect a partial “full.” Legal fill leaves vapor space (~80%).
Sizes. Ask about 20 / 30 / 40 / 100 lb and whether they fill RV ASME tanks. Condo lots and beach cages almost never do.
Hurricane week. Exchange cages empty first. That is still not a refill.
Call-ahead script
“Hi — I’m looking to refill my own tank, not exchange. Do you refill today? What sizes? Do you fill RVs? Is someone at the pump now?”
Common rejection rules (cite, don’t invent)
From U.S. DOT / PHMSA consumer guide Is Your Cylinder Safe to Fill? (PDF):
Do not fill cylinders with excessive rust/corrosion/pitting, dents/bulges/cuts/cracks, missing/damaged footring, neckring/collar, or valve cover, or leaking/defective valve or relief device.
Check manufacture / requalification dates; cylinders must be requalified within 12 years of manufacture (then per marking — e.g. “E” visual often means 5 years).
From North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services LP-Gas consumer FAQ (page):
Turn-downs include: out-of-date collar, missing required OPD (cylinders up to and including 40 lb), damage/corrosion, loose/damaged collar or foot ring, damaged valve.
A “full” 20-lb grill cylinder is limited by OPD / expansion space; exchange cabinets often sell lighter net weights than a proper refill.
If a 20-lb grill cylinder is empty after a Little Havana cookout, a Dadeland weekend, or a Hollywood patio, the nearest pin is often a locked cage on US 1, Biscayne, or Pines Boulevard — or a “propane” pin on a Brickell / Miami Beach condo map. That cage is usually an exchange: you leave your tank and take a prefilled one. A refill is different — an attendant or a certified pay-at-pump station puts propane into your cylinder and you pay for what goes in.
This page is for people in Miami, Hialeah, Doral, North Miami Beach, Miami Gardens, Kendall, Perrine, Homestead, Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Pembroke Pines, Pompano Beach, and Margate who want a refill: U-Haul propane stations (verify Tank Refills, not Tank Exchange only), the Tractor Supply store in western Pembroke Pines that lists “propane tank refill,” and LP offices that publish cylinder / fill-station language on their own pages. It is not a map of every cage in Miami-Dade or Broward, not a West Palm dump, and not a price board. Call before you drive; stock, attendant coverage, and tank-size limits change. Hurricane week is when cages empty first — that is not a reason to treat a cage as a fill.
Often a lighter net weight printed on the cage (commonly ~15 lb — check the cage label)
Larger tanks / RV
Many refill stations handle 30–100 lb and RVs
Usually 20-lb grill cylinders only
Tank age / damage
Station can refuse an out-of-date or damaged cylinder
Exchange may take a worn tank and give you another
Miami-area U-Haul location pages that sell refill also pitch that refill is cheaper than exchange and that exchange does not credit leftover propane. Sungas’ fill-station page is explicit: no tank exchanges at that dock. Gallon prices on several U-Haul pages the day opened are omitted from the cards below — they change.
