Refill vs exchange at U-Haul: many U-Haul propane pages advertise both tank refill (often pay-at-pump) and exchange. Refill puts propane into your cylinder; exchange swaps it for a different prefilled tank and usually does not credit leftover gas. If the card below mentions pay-at-pump, still confirm the pump is online before you drive — office hours on the location page are not a guarantee an attendant is standing at the fill.

What to bring: the empty (or low) cylinder you own; a readable collar with manufacture/requalification dates; an OPD valve on cylinders through 40 lb propane capacity; and a tank free of heavy rust, dents, bulges, or a damaged foot ring/collar. Out-of-date or damaged tanks are commonly refused. Legal fill leaves vapor space (~80%); expect a partial “full,” not a brick-solid cylinder.
